Bash the Trash performance at Hamilton Avenue School, the culmination of a STEAM unit

Hamilton Avenue School in Greenwich Connecticut Held Its “Bash the Trash” STEAM Day

Hamilton Avenue School recently held a STEAM Day featuring a performance by “Bash the Trash.” Over the past few months, students from grades K-5 engaged in a problem-based learning activity within a STEAM framework, researching and creating projects to present at the event. Each grade level focused on different themes:

  • Kindergarten and 1st grade explored “How Things Work” by creating collections and investigating how items in their collections function.
  • 2nd and 3rd graders worked on STEAM Creations, researching inventions and building models.
  • 4th and 5th graders tackled Real World Problems, conducting investigations or designing challenges to propose solutions.

The event culminated in student presentations, where they showcased their projects to friends and families. “Bash the Trash” performed using instruments made from recycled materials, demonstrating creativity and sustainability in music. Other STEAM activities included building roller coasters with the Bruce Museum, visiting the school’s Star Lab, and constructing cloud finders. The inflatable Starlab planetarium allowed children to experience a projection of the night sky and constellations.
